Love Mumbai
The typographic love sculptures are a series of unique installations, being created across various metro cities of India. Designed by Rocky (Hitesh Malaviya) in collaboration with Hanif Kureshi, the
installations explore newer ways to celebrate urban pride in the form of vernacular typography sculptures.
“The heart is a universal symbol of love, used by everyone, from the Roadside Romeo to Milton Glaser (the designer of (‘I <3 NY’ logo), to represent love. This powerful icon cuts across demographics and language barriers. “ -Hitesh Malaviya (Rocky)
Devised as monuments of love dedicated by the citizens of the cities, to their cities as marks of their undying love for each other, the sculptures incorporate the love symbol (heart) into the various relevant scripts of Indian cities such as Devanagari script. Instead of the Latin script, the transliteration of love in Devanagari adds a multilingual, fun aspect which imbibes elements from our Hinglish speaking generation and popular culture. They aim to express the feelings of the citizens and of all the people who love the city, creating an icon in the city, for the city.
