Mahatma Gandhi Mural, Churchgate Station, Mumbai

Mahatma Gandhi was deboarded off a train in South Africa in 1893 after which he began his lifelong battle for civil liberty, respect and freedom. Brazilian artist Kobra’s artwork pays a tribute to his relentless dedication and the spirit for our independence and of the crucial role the railways played in our freedom struggle.
The 30-metre high mural is an adaptation of a photograph taken in the early 1940s by Kulwant Roy owned by Aditya Arya Archive and India Photo Archive. The project is an initiative by St+art India FoundationandAsianPaintsalongwiththe support from Western Railways and Brazilian Consulate Mumbai.
