Project Udaan

At Arpan Charitable Trust, Project Udaan is a reimagining of space to support neurodivergent children.
A collaboration between Asian Paints and St+art India Foundation under St+art Care, this initiative caters to the need for environments with diverse sensory needs, encouraging interaction, self-regulation, and creative engagement. Udaan challenges the rigidity of traditional learning spaces by creating an adaptive, sensory-rich environment that prioritises both stimulation and comfort and stands as an example of how art, design, and accessibility can come together to create spaces that support diverse ways of experiencing the world.

External Mural: The large scale exterior mural is inspired by the lifecycle of a butterfly, and reflects the journeys of neurodivergent individuals, each progressing at their own pace toward confidence and self-discovery. This showcases that the building as a space curated with neurodivergence in mind – a place where every child is recognised and supported.

Indoor Interventions: The indoor spaces are created to actively respond to the needs of its users, through colour-zoning techniques, tactile surfaces and cocoon-like enclosures. The design choices were informed by an understanding of the sensory processing differences and is adaptable to the children's individual needs.
