Untitled: SB Marg
by Hanif Kureshi, Akash Halankar, Johnson
Delighted to see this shout-out to some of our latest work in Mumbai by Shri @adityathackeray and @my_bmc.
For this project, envisioned by @studiopod_global as part of development architecture for their client @nucleusofficeparks, St+art India recreates the cultural history of the the area where the Senapati Bapat Marg Flyover is located and pays tribute to the ever-changing landscape of the city of Mumbai.
Monotone illustrations are juxtaposed against one another on the flyover giving the viewer a sense of the rich traditions and narratives of this area through the decades – cotton mills, the corporate parks, indo-saracenic architecture, old bus tickets, heritage chawls, street vendors, festive rituals, dabbawallas, with dispersed flowers in the midst of them, evoking the iconic Dadar flower market.
The project was undertaken in 2021. It has been curated by @hanifkureshi, designed by @akashalankar & @kshetrimayumjohnso and painted by @sadhale_v_r & Team. Like with other projects St+art undertakes, this one too reimagines urban design, creates open access to art and engages with the local community.
