Mother India

by Gomez

Gomez’s mural on 60 Feet Road, titled “Mother India,” features a symbolic female figure holding a rose, with a crow taking flight beside her. Rendered in dark, soft brush strokes that blend into the weathered facade, this mural explores the dualities of India—a place where beauty and hardship coexist. The crow, depicted as sculpture-like, represents resilience and adaptability, while the rose adds a touch of delicacy, symbolising hope amidst the struggles of urban life. This piece became a cornerstone for what would later develop into the Mahim (E) Art District, offering a powerful representation of both the grit and grace of Dharavi’s residents.
