The Lava Tree

by Anpu Varkey

Anpu Varkey is a Bangalore-based artist. She graduated from Baroda and London and had her first solo show in New York in 2008, following which, she moved to Bremen, Germany. There, she shared a studio with 15 artists, some of whom were actively writing on the streets. During her two years in Bremen, she organised her own exhibition at a nightclub and started doodling on the streets. She moved to Delhi in 2011 and painted her first wall at the Khirkee Extension project. Since then, she has been actively painting murals around India.

Anpu continues to push her boundaries as an artist by exploring newer forms in her work, like this mural in Lodhi Colony. From the deep recesses of a dreamscape, perpetuating the flow of lava, the tree poses to consume the entire building, shadowing the menace of our minds.
