The People’s Building

by Poornima from the Aravani Art… Show more

Poornima from the Aravani Art Project and Sadhna Prasad transformed Coimbatore’s 75-foot District Library Office into "The People’s Building," a vibrant landmark celebrating the community's diversity and textile heritage. Inspired by local interactions, they painted the phrase "இன்று நமதே" (Today Belongs To Us) across the building’s façade, capturing the spirit of Coimbatore’s resilient and hardworking residents.

In collaboration with local sign painters Liyakat Ali and K M Hussain, they painted "மக்கள் மாளிகை" (People’s Building) on the shop shutters below. This initiative reinforced traditional hand-painted typography, recognizing it as an essential cultural and economic resource in a landscape increasingly dominated by digital flex signs.
